The new Independent Blue Valley Education Association (BVEA) is the third public school district in Kansas to break away from the National and National Education Association in the last school year. Rosalie-Flint Hills USD 492 professor decertified with a unanimous vote 23-0 in December. The $256 vote in the Marmaton Valley was almost the same. Teachers voted 23-1 to reject the KNEA. Kansas is a state of law, which means teachers don`t have to bring a portion of their paychecks to pay union dues. However, contracts for public school teachers are negotiated between school authorities and bargaining units.
